Some new news regarding the housing prices. They seem to be starting to move. I have been working on sites in Wimbledon and have started to new developments pop up everwhere. These particular ones are in the 1.5m range which i suppose is not really the norm. very nice though I must say, and if I had that kind of money I would be there.

Here is a little gem of a product for tight compaction. Mot Type 1 limestone. This little beauty is ideal for driveway sub bases or any surface where you need to get it dead level. Size is about 40mm down to dust. this is one of the great building materials that never lets you down.

Many sites are posting a pedicted slump in new builds. This will more than likely be the case. we have been analyizng our sales data and have found that more of our building materials have been sent to commercial sites than residential sites.I hope this recession doesn't last to long for all our sakes.

Whats going on at the moment with the production of building materials. Some people are saying that they are coming to a halt while others are saying that they are at full speeed. Will the downgrade of the US credit status have a knock on affect. We will have to wait and see!But for now keep a close eye on production figures as I feel they will give us all a heads up on the real state of play as building materials need to be produced before houses can be made.

There are now quite a few buiding material suppiers in the Surrey area. The big boys seem to be doing very well and I have noticed a few more house sales than usual. This is great news for all of us. Keep it coming thats what I say. On a sad note I have noticed a lot of independent smaller merchants closing down. Our thoughts go out to them.

MOT Type 1 Limestone ........what is it? The MOT part stands for Ministry Of Transport, the grading is 40mm down to dust, which means the largest particles will be 40mm and the smallest will be dust granular size.

This material when compressed compacts very tightly and is ideal for use under roads or where a flat stable surfce is needed.

Looking through our sales sheets yesterday I noiced that July and August seem to be the worst Months of the year for building materials sales, and yet typically we have the best weather. I can only put it down to peolple going on holiday.

What a waste, the best two months weather wise and sales are down.

Grab Service Surrey:Prices for using a grab service in surrey has now reached a year high. The problem being landfill prices going up. Prices to tip grab waste in Surrey are around £120 per load. This means that the average grab load of inert waste is around £ 230 per load.The highest this has been was 2007 where a load was around £300 per load. This high price was mainly due to landfill price increases. With a bit of luck the economy will return to 2008 and we will all have it off again.

I have noticed over the past few years that I have been supplying bulding materials to more and more brownfield sites. I had a chance to talk to one of the guys involved in the land remediation services team. He informed me that this was a prefered option for the government and local councils and that developing these sites will be the way forward over the next 20 years, so maybe brownfield site are the way to go.

Should I move house now or wait?

I seem to be in a bit of a dilema at the moment with regards to moving house. Interest rates stayed the same this month which is great news for my mortgage. But if interest rates start to go up does that mean that house prices will come down. I have raised this question because most of us could not afford to pay more ito our mortgages should we need to move up the ladder. I think some carefull planning is needed. With inflation now at 5%, nearly twice what it should be, will the UK housing market stall once again. Probably! If only we could get some goo economical news out and put some confidence back in the industry. The FTSE can't seem to break 6100 so I guess we are in limbo at the moment.... could be worse I suppose.

Is the housing market set to boom again? Or will interest rates rise and stall it all again? I think that the latter is more likely. The construction market that I am in services both the comercial and public sector. The comercial side seems to be going well where private dwellings seem to be not moving at all. I think that this year may be a slow one, and we are nearly halfway through it.

With the property market in the UK on the up, I am looking at improving my existing prpoerty perhaps with an extension or revamp and I am looking for building material suppliers for me and eveyone else. It seems that on;y the big boys are getting the coverage and they aren't even cheap anymore.

I think that an extension is really the way to go to add some value and like many people out there I have started late in life. I am at present 38 and didn't buy my first property until I was 33 so I am looking to make the most of my available time to move up the ladder in the most effective way that I can.

The real question is what is going to happen with the property market in the UK.Are things really on the up? They certainly feel like they are but what if interest rates were to rise to 5 %, that would wipe a lot of people out of the game me included
